Rienzi Elementary School will soon belong to the Town of Rienzi.

The decision was made earlier this week by the Alcorn School District Board of Education to hand over a quick claim deed on a portion of district-owned land to the Town of Rienzi.
 The vote met no opposition.

In August, school board attorney Arch Bullard said the district only owned “one tract of land in Rienzi which has road frontage and school buildings.” The second tract with some portion of a building had already reverted to the Town of Rienzi.

The board also voted to give a bill of sale to the town on remaining personal property inside the school buildings.

No decision was made public concerning Glendale school property.

A source close to the situation said the district is currently “in talks” with both the Town of Glen and a commercial business owner about the sale of the property.

In other board news:

• The Alcorn County Advisory Council honored three students prior to the board meeting.

Biggersville Elementary School fourth-grader Brandon Jenkins, Kossuth Middle School fifth grader Ally Morgan and Alcorn Central High School senior Abbie Fields were each selected for recognition by the P16.

• Board members accepted two donations this week.

Alcorn Central Elementary School will receive a $3,000 grant from Dollar General for technology improvements, while Kossuth Middle School seventh and eighth grade will receive $1,312 from Corinth Coca-Cola Bottling Works.

The credit card will be used on trips and to pay for registration fees and hotel rooms when a check is not accepted.

• Two employee resignations were approved earlier this week.

Biggersville High School certified teacher Ronnie Lawson and non-certified cafeteria worker Brooke Leatherwood will each resign from their positions.
