Sponsored by Main Street, Visit Corinth and Corinth First, Deck the Town is a contest to see which local retailers or dining establishments can put up the best window paintings for the holiday season. Approximately 35 local businesses have signed up for the contest so far.
Community Development Council board member Tom Chartres said the purpose of the contest is to draw more local and out-of-town business to Corinth’s stores and eateries.
“We really want people to come in and visit Corinth and give our local businesses an opportunity to be successful with our visitors as well as keep our local people in town,” said Chartres.
All local businesses and artists are invited to participate. Signing up is free, and businesses may enlist the services of an artist to produce their window design.
“You pick the artist, or we’ll pair you up with one,” said Main Street board member Brittany Burcham. “All you need to do is let us know you want to participate.”
Contest organizers are offering a total of $1,000 in prize money for the best window paintings. Thirteen winners will see a share of the award money: one first place prize of $250; one second place prize of $150; one third place prize of $100; and ten $50 awards. Each artist will be eligible for one prize.
To participate, a business must register with Corinth First or Main Street by calling 287-5269 or sending an email to email@example.com.
Here’s how the contest works. Entries will be listed on a ballot and numbered for identification purposes. Ballots will be available only at participating businesses. Anyone who wants to vote in the contest can pick up a ballot from one of the businesses and submit it at either a participating business, The Alliance or the Tourism Office.
Nov. 4 will be the deadline for completing the list of participating retailers and artists. The painting period will be Nov. 7 to Nov. 23. Voting starts on Nov. 25 and ends Dec. 19. Winners will be announced and prizes given on Dec. 21.
