A familiar face in local law enforcement, Patricia Pierce has worked 21 years with the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department. The deputy serves as bailiff for Alcorn County Circuit Court and also sometimes for chancery court and youth court. Originally from Memphis, she also worked in law enforcement there before coming to Corinth in 1989. Looking for part-time work, she applied for a secretarial job at the sheriff’s office but soon took on duties such as inmate transport and working with sequestered jurors. She finds the work challenging and rewarding. “Sometimes it’s depressing or heartbreaking to see certain situations,” said Pierce. “Other times, when we’ve gone out and actually helped an individual instead of putting them in the back seat of the car and taking them to jail, you come away saying, ‘That’s what we do it for.’” She has two children with her husband of 48 years, Calvin Pierce.
