The Kossuth High School Band has racked up another top-five finish in the state marching band championship.

The Aggie Band placed fifth in the state championship, held Saturday, Oct. 22, at Pearl River High School.

“This is the fifth time in six years we’ve been in the top five,” said Kossuth Band Director Brandon Harville.

To be eligible to compete in the state championship competition the Aggie band had to make superior ratings at the regional event, held Oct. 8 in Tupelo.

During the competition the band did a visual warm up and a musical warm up followed by the competition on the field.

This year the Kossuth Band’s theme was “Antagonist” — feature pieces of music associated with villains in film or theatre, including “The Imperial March” from the Star Wars series.

“The kids really enjoy playing that one,” said Harville. “This is the first time we’ve done a dark show, focusing on the villains. They’ve really enjoyed that.”

Harville said the Kossuth Band members are anxious to return to the top three, where the band finished last year, and looking ahead to future competitions.

“They’re anxious to de even better next year when we go back,” Harville said.
