Despite being diagnosed with a debilitating disease in 2008, Biggersville resident Melvin Steed is counting his blessings. Though he has had to relearn to walk multiple times through the ordeal, the 66-year-old Indianola native still manages to encourage others along the way. A Minister of Music and a Deacon at Crossroads Baptist Church, alongside Bro. Warren Jones, Melvin shares his love for God, family and Mississippi State. He also serves as the Chaplain for Biggersville Fire and Rescue. "God's got me where he wants me," said the 1968 Indianola High School graduate. "Hopefully, he will continue to use me in my ministry." Married to his wife Gay for 44 years now, the avid State fan is the father of Shane and Gayla Steed and Jonathan and Ashley Rider. The couple also has six grandchildren.
