That’s the question being asked by local law enforcement agencies and those involved in the vehicle repair business after the 49-year-old Corinth mechanic and business owner has gone missing without a trace.
A Missing Person Report was filed on Cook with the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department because he has not been seen locally since Thursday, March 2 — a full two weeks, Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell told the Daily Corinthian.
Alcorn County Investigator Caleb Marolt is working the case and Cook is believed to have been in Tunica on Saturday, March 4, said the sheriff.
“We got some information he may have been in Tunica,” said Caldwell.
The case remains a problem because the owner of Cook’s Auto Repair on U.S 72 West does not have a known home address and he has no local family, noted the sheriff.
“He has a son somewhere in Louisiana, but we don’t know how to get in touch,” said Caldwell, as Cook is believed to be single.
Added Investigator Marolt, “We are in the blind. There are no relatives to contact.”
The mystery has Cook’s friends concerned.
“There is not a trace of him,” said friend Tim Reynolds, an Auto Zone employee who saw the mechanic often. “No Facebook posts and he can’t be reached by his cell phone.”
Reynolds offered a public plea to help locate his friend, supplying a photograph and a description of what Cook drives - a 4-door 2003 Chevy Tahoe, gold in color and bearing license plate number ACN 652.
“I’m praying everything is OK, but this is not like him,” said Reynolds. “Everyone is worried that something may have happened to him,” he added.
Cook is a likeable person, noted Reynolds.
“He’s a great guy,” he said. “He is always looking out for others.”
Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance agreed, saying he got to know Cook when he was a city jail trustee.
“He’s a super nice guy,” said Dance. “And a great mechanic. We really like the man. We hope nothing has happened to him.”
The police chief said his force will join in the effort to locate the missing man.
Marolt said the key to missing persons cases is locating family. He asked for anyone with information about Cook or his family to please contact him at the sheriff’s office at 662-286-5521.
“Robert has never been like this before,” added Reynolds. “Something is not right.”
