The dirt will fly at the Crossroads Arena this weekend as go-kart racers roll into Corinth.

More than 250 entries are expected in the 2nd Annual Northeast Mississippi Spring Indoor Nationals set for Friday-Sunday.

Featuring speeds of up to 60 mph, 15 classes of karts including clone lite, medium, heavy, super heavy and over 35 will highlight the three-day event. Weekend payout totals more than $20,000.

“Last year’s karting races were huge,” said Tammy Genovese, the arena’s general manager. “We’re happy to have them back this year with even more races, classes and a bigger purse.”

The schedule of events includes a Friday night practice session open to the public. Set to begin at 5 p.m., admission is $5.

Saturday’s races begin early at 11 a.m. with a $10 general admission. Sunday’s races also begin at 11 a.m. with a $5 admission. Kids ages 6 and under get in free all three days.

Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Genovese said the kart races bring a lot of new traffic into Corinth.

“We have racers competing this weekend from 10 different states,” she said. “As of Thursday afternoon, two Corinth hotels were sold out, and the others are filling up. We are also working to let area restaurants know about the folks in town and making sure the racers know about all the local options.”

The weekend events will feature at least three local racers.

“Justin Glissen, Kevin Barnes and Brad Chisler will be racing,” said Genovese. “Those local guys will be rubbing tires along side some of the best kart racers in this part of the country.

“If you’re a race fan, there’s no better place to be this weekend then the Crossroads Arena.”
