Two Alcorn County school gymnasiums will see a lighting upgrade soon.

Alcorn School District board members accepted two low bids to purchase LED lighting for the high school gyms at Biggersville and Alcorn Central.

“This upgrade will improve the quality of lighting in our gyms,” said Superintendent of Education Larry B. Mitchell. “It will also have a three-year payback, so these improvements should pay for themselves over a three year period.”

Cortelco, Inc. won the bid on the LED lighting purchase for $5,627.95 per campus.

Sanford Electric also submitted bids for the two projects.

Mitchell said a lift will be rented this summer to complete the installation of the new lights.

In other news:

• The district accepted three donations recently.

Alcorn Central Middle School will receive $500 from the Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance for Math and Science programs, while Alcorn Career Technology Center will receive $800 from Randy Headrick for the manufacturing program.

Alcorn Central High School will also receive a $3,600 value donation in the form of 180 4x8 wood panels from Timber Products.
