Sheriff Ben Caldwell said his department was notified early Friday of the death of Gregory Lawrence Seago, 33, of Highway 2, Kossuth.
The alleged assailant, Chadwick John Grimes, 38, of Highway 2, Kossuth, was arrested and charged with second degree murder. He was released after posting $50,000 bond. The previous charge of aggravated assault has been dismissed.
Seago had been hospitalized at Regional One in Memphis since the April 29 fight in Kossuth. He suffered severe head injuries.
“From what we understand, Chad Grimes was there to fight another individual,” said Caldwell. “Greg Seago was with that individual and was assaulted.”
It happened at the Aggie Mart at Highway 2 and County Road 512 about 12:30 a.m. on April 29. A number of individuals had gathered there.
No other charges have been filed.
“We are going to present all the evidence we have to the grand jury,” the sheriff said. “Other charges are possible.”
Funeral arrangements for Seago are pending with McPeters Inc. Funeral Directors.
