An Alcorn County man faces a couple of felony charges after fleeing from officers Friday morning.

Bishop Martin, 22, of Highway 356, is charged with burglary, felony evading and misdemeanor shoplifting.

Sheriff Ben Caldwell said his department responded to a call of possible shoplifting at Dollar General in Biggersville around 10 a.m., and a pursuit followed. One of the two suspects matched the description of an individual the department was looking for in connection with a residential burglary that occurred in Farmington Thursday evening on County Road 119.

Constable Wayne Duncan spotted the vehicle after it left the Biggersville store and attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle fled south on Highway 45 and turned west onto Prentiss County Road 8200.

Caldwell said the vehicle went into a ditch, and the two suspects fled the vehicle on foot. They were found hiding in the woods a short distance from the vehicle.

The second subject was not charged and was released.

The sheriff thanked Duncan, Prentiss deputies and the Mississippi Highway Patrol for assisting in the response.
