One cannot fight a battle without effective weapons and an upcoming fundraising seminar should equip attendees for the war against cancer.

The Farmington Baptist Church Relay for Life team will host a Cancer Seminar beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Farmington Baptist Church. The cost of the event is $20 and includes lunch.

Proceeds from the event will support the church’s Relay for Life team.

“It’s a fundraiser, but it’s also meant to be informative. I want people to get something out of it,” said Kristi Bronson, Farmington Baptist Relay For Life team captain and Survivor Chair for the Alcorn County Relay for Life.

A wonderful array of speakers was already lined up, she added.

Scheduled speakers include:

Vickie Duke: Community Manager, Relay For Life and Mid-South Division, American Cancer Society, Inc.Lanell Coln: Event Chair for Alcorn County Relay for Life will speak and give her extraordinary story of cancer survival.Jeri Simpson: West Clinic Chemotherapy nurseRachel Mitchell: Speaker presenting information on nutrition and fitness.Stacy Brooks: Mississippi Tobacco Free CoalitionThe line-up of speakers should have something of value to offer for everyone, said Bronson. The speakers should be able to educate and inspire. Whether someone is a cancer survivor, struggling with cancer, has a loved one with cancer or if someone is simply interested in cancer prevention, this seminar can help.

Bronson, who is also a cancer survivor, said she may share some of her own survival story.

All proceeds will benefit the Alcorn County Relay For Life scheduled for Friday, April 28, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Crossroads Regional Park in Corinth. This year’s theme is “superheroes.” Funds raised at the annual event help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

“Every passionate step taken demonstrates courage and strength,” said Lanell Coln Event Chair. “Together, we are bigger than cancer, and funds raised by local teams help the American Cancer Society bring cancer to its knees.”

Bronson asks that those who would like to attend the fundraising Cancer Seminar, to please call and R.S.V.P just to reserve their spot and so those preparing lunch will have an idea how many people they will feed.

“I am hoping for a lot of people from the community to come,” said Bronson.
