Fire Damages Lloyd’s Café

A fire that started in a store room in the rear of Lloyd’s Café about 6 p.m. yesterday reportedly caused some $4,000 to $5,000 in damages to the business owned by Lloyd Gann.

The fire first noticed by a cook, who saw smoke coming from the storeroom was put under control in about 15 minutes by the Corinth Fire Department, but smoke continued to boil from the building for some two hours.

The building contains some 2,000 square feet of dining and kitchen space and is joined by the large Corona Plaza Motel. Only minor damage was reported to the motel, with only three rooms receiving smoke damage.

Fire Chief Charlie Forsyth said this morning that a definite cause could not be determined but thought that faulty wiring could have caused the fire.

In addition to the estimated $4,000 to $5,000 damage to the equipment and the building, Gann said just about all the canned goods and food stuffs stored in the room were destroyed. Gann said the restaurant would reopen for business this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Vagrant Verse by Grady Peerey

The Real Reason

The art of writing letters once

Was cherished as a gift,

And letters that the folks received

Would give them all a lift.

They were not full of gossip, then,

No scandal did they shout,

But might contain a recipe

For making sauerkraut.

Folks wrote about the latest books

And what made people tick:

Religions, crops, and quilting bees,

In flawless rhetoric.

But now with folks glued to TV,

(From it they can’t be pried)

For they can’t miss “Adventure Time”, “Bonanza” and “Rawhide.”
