One upcoming event seeks to saves lives and promote love.

Oasis Medical Center staff and volunteers are excited about the 23rd Annual Walk for Life scheduled for Saturday, April 22, at Crossroads Regional Park. The event is one of the ministry’s biggest fund raisers.Participants raise money for Oasis by obtaining sponsors prior to the event. Proceeds go directly to the center and help Oasis continue to provide pregnancy services to Alcorn and surrounding counties at no charge to the client. Enthusiasm appears to have been growing over the past few weeks. Oasis reports that many walkers have signed up and the center has already begun receiving donations.

“It’s fun to see kids getting involved too,” said Matt Mitchell, CEO of Oasis Medical Center.

Recently several children who plan to participate in the Walk, raised money by setting up a lemonade stand in Mitchell’s neighborhood. They donated their earnings to the Walk. Many local churches are supporting the event and area businesses and civic organizations are involved as well.

“We have distributed thousands of hand outs and bulletin inserts and expect a good turnout,” said Mitchell.

First time walker Tanya Dill believes it is essential for churches to support the Walk and Oasis’ ministry.

“Choosing life and loving on people, that’s what we’re supposed to do,” said Dill.

Oasis is a non-profit ministry that offers pregnancy medical services to hundreds of individuals from Alcorn and surrounding counties. OMC is able to provide services at no cost due to the support of local individuals, churches and businesses. By helping raise money for the center, walkers play a vital part in the work of this ministry, according to representatives for the center.

OMC is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA). Mitchell described this as the “Good Housekeeping Seal” of approval for charitable organizations. All contributions are used to financially support the local center.
