The victim of a Monday afternoon homicide in North Corinth has been identified.

Shomarick Payne, a 24-year-old black male, was found dead with single gun shot wound to the head, said Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance.

A friend arrived at the home to check on the man and the front door was open, said Dance. Police responded to a 911 call at Payne’s home at 2704 Glover Drive around 4:30 p.m. When officers arrived they found Payne laying on the kitchen floor.

Glover Drive is located in North Corinth near U.S. Highway 45 and Wenasoga Road.

“We are still unsure of the official cause of death,” Dance told the Daily Corinthian. “The body was sent to Jackson for a autopsy report and we are awaiting those findings.”

Investigators combed the property and found “a lot of evidence,” added the chief.

“It appears the victim may have been robbed,” he said. “We know there was stuff missing from the home, but we are still talking to family members and collecting more information.”

Anyone with information should contact the police at (662) 286-3377.
