Two popular events are returning this weekend to the Alcorn County Fair.

The annual fair Cheer Off presented by The Dinner Bell and Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial and the Fairest of the Fair Pageant will both happen on Saturday inside the Crossroads Arena.

Danny Turner, fair committee board member, said the Cheer Off is one of the biggest events surrounding fair week.

“The Cheer Off has always been held the first day of the fair,” said Turner. “This year we have moved it to Saturday, which should only help make the event even better.”

Set for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Cheer Off will feature teams from junior high and high school cheer and dance squads, all-star gyms and dance studios. Turner said 30 teams have signed up so far.

“We still have room for more teams and welcome more to come take part in this fun exhibition,” he said.

National recording artist Danielle Peck will sing the national anthem prior to the event and Northeast Mississippi Community College Tiger cheerleaders and dancers will also perform throughout the night.

Admission is $8 for the event with ages 5 and under free and includes access to all other fair activities. Cheer and dance team members and coaches in uniform will receive free admission. Door prizes will be provided by CB&S Bank.

“We will also post an order of performance on the fair’s website and Facebook, so that kids and families can know when they perform,” said Turner. “That way families can enjoy other fair activities before and after their exhibition time.”

Taking place Saturday morning is the Fairest of the Fair Pageant.

Registration for the event is 9 a.m. inside the Crossroads Arena Convention Center. Admission is $5.

Categories of entry include Tiny Miss (0-12 months), Baby Miss (13-23 months), Tiny Tot Miss (2-3 years old), Little Miss (4-6 years old), Junior Miss (7-9 years old), Pre-Teen Miss (10-12 years), Teen Miss (13-15 years old) and Miss Fairest of the Fair (16-18 years old).

Entry fee is $35 for girls with pageant dress attire. For boys (0-5 years old), entry is $25 with rodeo/western attire.

Most photogenic and outfit of choice contests are also available for $10 each.
