The arm and bat of Tyler Thomas kept Corinth in the playoff hunt.

Thomas garnered his fourth straight favorable decision behind a complete-game effort and aided his own cause with 4 RBI as Corinth reeled off its seventh straight victory behind a 9-2 decision over Kossuth on Tuesday.

Corinth (17-7, 6-1) remained in second place in Division 1-3A and upped its lead to two games over Kossuth (13-6, 4-3) in the battle for the second playoff spot. Booneville remained unbeaten in league play with a 2-0 decision over Ripley on Tuesday.

David Gibson (3-3) set Corinth down on strikes in the first, but couldn’t get out of the second after the Aggies had taken a 1-0 lead on a single by Michael Hicks.

Corinth loaded the bases with nobody out on back-to-back walks and a hit batsman. Thomas laced a two-run single through a drawn in infield to put the Warriors on top at 2-1.

Gibson struck out the next two batters before Corinth tallied four runs on three consecutive two-out hits.

“In most of the games we’ve won this year we’ve done it with two-out hits,” said CHS Head Coach Rob Scarbrough. “That was the same case tonight.”

Diante Curlee lofted a two-run single down the rightfield line and later moved to third on an errant pick-off attempt. Graham Williams followed with a double to the rightfield gap that chased Gibson.

Lew Johnson kept the two-out magic alive with a run-scoring single before Tyler Nelms retired Parks Frazier, the 10th batter of the inning for Corinth.

Corinth tacked on two more runs in the third on Thomas’ two-run blast to left. Thomas finished 2-of-3 at the plate with 4 RBI, while allowing just one earned run in winning for the fourth time against division foes.

“It was a very good pitching performance by Tyler,” said Scarbrough. “He also came up big at the plate from the seven hole.”

Shaye Anderson added a solo shot in the fifth, his first career roundtripper.

Thomas, Williams and Blake Frazier had two hits each for the Warriors. Heath Wood paced Kossuth with a pair of singles.

Corinth hosts Ripley on Thursday, while Kossuth travels to Booneville on Friday. Alcorn Central will host Belmont on Thursday, a game that was moved from its Tuesday slot.
