Myrtle exploded in the top of the ninth, scoring four times and leaving Jesse Bynum Field with a 9-5 win Friday night.

In other county action, Alcorn Central thumped Tishomingo County 23-1 in just four innings. Biggersville opened the season with an 18-3 setback at Hickory Flat.

• The Hawks sent nine men to the plate, using a pair of hits, walks and hit batsmen to complete a rally that saw the visitors score all nine runs over the final five innings.

Both teams finished with nine hits and left 12 men on base. Myrtle, which got the leadoff batter on base seven out of nine times, got 14 free runners on board thanks to seven walks, three hit batters and four of the Warriors’ five total miscues.

Cody Davis (0-2) took the loss, allowing six runs, four earned, in four innings. He allowed just three hits, but walked five (one intentional) and hit two.

Pierce Langley worked the first five innings, allowing three runs -- all unearned. A throwing error led to the first run, while the other two came via Colt Smith’s two-run blast as an earlier error made the two-out at-bat possible.

Noah Hill had three of Corinth’s nine hits, including a triple. Tanner Maness and Austin McClamroch added two hits each.

Corinth started the game with back-to-back hits and took a 1-0 lead on a sac fly by Davis. The Warriors added three more in the fourth, on a wild pitch, single by Kerrigan Maness and a bases-loaded walk by T. Maness.

Myrtle scored five times over the fifth and sixth innings to take a 6-5 lead. Hill’s triple and a two-out error allowed the Warriors to tie the game in the sixth and it stayed that way until the ninth.

• A Iuka, Jarrad Robinson brought his newest team to his alma mater and Alcorn Central needed just four innings to dispatch of Tishomingo County 23-1.

Central, which plays twice at the Pontotoc Tournament today, improved to 3-0.

Justin Pickle went the distance, improving to 2-0 while getting 10 of the 12 outs via strikes. He aided his own cause with a pair of hits, including one of the Golden Bears’ four extra-base knocks.

Riley Mask and Chandler Young paced Central’s 12-hit attack with three each. Mask had three-fourths of the cycle with a single, double and triple.

• In softball action, the Biggersville Lady Lions ran their mark to 4-0 with a 6-4 win over Houlka on Friday.

Taylor Beth Nash didn’t allow an earned run and scattered just two hits while striking out 13 in the complete-game effort.
