Man drowns in Hurricane Creek

Authorities are investigating the drowning death of a man in Hurricane Creek near the Old Iron Bridge in western Alcorn County.

The drowning occurred near a new District 5 bridge being built on County Road 600.

According to a witness, several men were swimming in Hurricane Creek around 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday afternoon when one of the men got tangled in brush and went under water.

The man’s body was removed around 5:30 p.m., by a member of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department, Alcorn County Emergency Management and first responders assisted in the search.
