Playing off that statement there’s always something going on in the sports world and this week is no different.
With this being spring break week for the local Mississippi schools, the sports calendar has been lighter but several teams have still kept on playing despite the break.
Case in point: Corinth is participating in the Disney (FL) tournament and Tishomingo County has been playing in the Gulf Shores Classic in Alabama.
Thrasher hosted a spring break tournament this week with several local teams involved. And Walnut hosted the Tippah County Tournament on Monday despite rainy conditions that washed out the remainder of local games.
Kossuth returns to action on Thursday and Friday in the Saltillo Tournament with a trio of games over two days against Itawamba AHS, Amory and Ripley while Alcorn Central host Wheeler on Friday before traveling to play at Adamsville (TN) on Saturday.
And softball action renews this week beginning Thursday when Kossuth travels to face Booneville.
And then there’s the gargantuon softball tournament in Booneville all day Saturday on on five different fields.
This is only a brief sampling of the games on tap beginning this week as students begin readying themselves for the remainder of the athletic season.
Check the local schedule on the main sports page daily for the complete rundown of games, locations and times.
Your Help Is Needed
I’d like to take this opportunity to ask for your assistance.
As most of you know there is currently no sports assistant so I do the best I can by myself assisted by a few regular photo and article contributors.
I’m thankful for each one more than I can express.
But there are times we could use more photo’s and story ideas from you..our readers. If you’re attending a ballgame of any type for any local school please snap a few photo’s and email them to me at email@example.com as soon as humanly possible. I might be able to use them in the next day’s paper. If not the next day’s paper I can ceratinly use them for future editions. Please be sure photo’s are of good quality and clearly shot. And please try to take them as close to the action as possible. Good shots will likely make future sports pages.
I also encourage you to call in game scores and information promptly so we can include them in the following days scoreboard. Many times coaches and coaches assistants will take care of this but you can never be too sure. I can use all the help I can get on a daily basis to make this a sports page that represents all the communities and towns that read this paper.
Again, my thanks to all of you who are already on board and helping in any way you can. I’m appealing now to those that can help out that maybe haven’t before. Don’t fall for the old ‘someone else will do it’ routine. If you can help please do. And you have my undying gratitude.
Enjoy the rest of your week and maybe by the time school reconvenes next week- for most- the temp’s will be more spring-like as springtime officially begins.
