In downtown Corinth’s ever growing world of boutique businesses, there are veterans.

One such business is LipChic Boutique – a hip, fashion shop born in 2003.

“I suppose Corinth just needed a place like Lipchic,” said owner Brenda Barbour. “We found our niche, and what started out as a weekend hobby found God's favour and allowed it to grow as a small business."

Barbour began her small business career as a independent consultant of SeneGence and Lipsence Longlasting Cosmetics. She performed makeovers inside a small booth at the former IF Market.

"That's actually where the name came from – since I sold Lipsence I called my business Lipchick," she said. "It really didn't take long for the business to become pretty successful, and I had quite a few ladies willing to invest in my products."

Soon she outgrew the space.

Barbour expanded, adding specialty jewelry and clothes. She made a slight name change dropping the "k" and launching LipChic Boutique.

After a stint at a U.S. Highway 72 location, the shop settled into a renovated Fillmore Street building.

"We were so excited to be in downtown," she said. "It was one of the best decisions we ever made."

From the historic walls of the storefront, Barbour offered everything from a simple t-shirt and jeans to designer clothing, cowboy boots, jewelry and accessories.

"I've always tried to keep inventory for ladies of all ages," said the store owner. "It's endless really. Retail is a guessing game. One can't predict what someone else will like and buy. That's why we end up with sale racks."

Seven years after moving into the Fillmore Street location, Barbour made another move to the vibrant and trendy SoCo District of downtown.

"This really feels like home for LipChic," Barbour said. "Hopefully, this will be our last move."

After 14 years in business, she admits it hasn't always been easy.

"It's like having a child. It requires all of your attention, a lot of prayer, humility and meekness," she said. "There are sleepless night and disappointments, but then on the other hand there's plenty of joy as well."

The business owner's biggest reward is hearing from her customers.

"I just love it when they tell me how much they enjoy coming in to shop, how much they love our packages, our jewelry selection, our service, our beautiful store and of course our staff," added Barbour. "I'm overwhelmed sometime by the kindness of our customers. It just makes everything that goes into running this business worthwhile."
