IUKA — Assistance will be requested for the services of the U.S. Marshals Service following a jail escape and the subsequent termination of a Tishomingo County Jail Correctional Officer.

The announcement of the termination of Tishomingo County Jail Correctional Officer Dillon Slade Davis came today after the escape of Dustin Jourdan McCoy, 24, from the Tishomingo County Jail.

McCoy’s escape was reported after early morning jail checks Thursday. McCoy had been in custody at the Tishomingo County Jail since February after being arrested for felony drug charges and different misdemeanors, according to the sheriff’s office.

Since the escape, the sheriff’s office stated a review of surveillance footage showed that McCoy had actually escaped the facility the night before at approximately 10 p.m. Davis did not notify authorities of the escape until 7 a.m. Thursday morning.

Authorities said Davis performed “a head count of all inmates during the night, but did not report McCoy missing.”

Davis, 22, had been employed at the Tishomingo County Jail for approximately three months.

In an interview with the Daily Corinthian, Tishomingo County Sheriff John Dennis Daugherty said it looked like a jail door had been jimmied and the fence was cut. He said it is believed McCoy had outside help with the escape and he is still at large.

The Sheriff said assistance from the U.S. Marshal’s Service will be requested and arrest warrants will be issued not only for McCoy, but possibly others as well.

McCoy is described as a white male, standing 5’10” and weighing 155 pounds. He has hazel eyes, brown hair and a small build. He has a tattoo on his left forearm area.

The sheriff’s office requests that anyone coming into contact with McCoy to please contact a local law enforcement agency immediately or notify 911.
