The midsouth may be looking at more wintry weather moving in later this week

as a powerful low pressure system moves in.

A special weather statement released Monday morning by the National Weather

Service office in Memphis, Tenn., said that "significant snow and ice

accumulations" are possible along and north of Clarksdale, Miss., to

Savannah, Tenn., on Thursday and Friday.

The Weather Service said the change of weather is going to be ushered in by

a powerful low pressure system and the  winter storm will affect the

midsouth around Thursday with cold air moving in from the North and a

surface low forecast to move up from north Texas to south Alabama, making

conditions in the area favorable for a wintry mix of precipitation.

It is too soon to know exactly what type or amount of precipitation to

expect at this point, however there is the potential for snow, sleet and/or

freezing rain accumulations mainly north

A representative at the Memphis office said that further details should be

available later today or early Wednesday as the Weather Service "tries to

pin down what will happen in this area."

Confidence of snow and ice accumulations is stronger for areas north of

Harrisburg, Ark., to Paris, Tenn., including the cities of Jonesboro,

Pocahotas, Blytheville, Caruthersville and Union City areas. South of those

areas, predictions are uncertain at this point.

The latest weather alert comes on the heels of a winter storm that hit the

region just three weeks ago. The Corinth/Alcorn County area saw ice, snow

and freezing temperatures that hung on for several days.
