SELMER, Tenn. — The weekend weather problems caused $400,000 in damages and affected 8,000 customers of Pickwick Electric Cooperative. The power outages began Friday afternoon and lasted until the last customers were restored on Monday night.

This weekend’s icy weather proved to be a problem all across McNairy County and into part of Hardin County that is served by PEC. The electric cooperative estimates that 35 percent of their customers were without power at some point between Friday and Monday.

“We appreciate our customers being patient with us as we worked to get power restored to our customers,” said Beverly Lambert, member services representative. “We worked as fast as possible to get the power back on for all of them.”

Lambert said the northeastern part of McNairy County was the hardest hit by the storm in areas close to Morris Chapel and Enville. The last customers to get their power back was in Bethel Springs around 6 p.m. on Monday.

“We really got everyone back on sooner than we had thought,” said Lambert. “We had 1,000 customers out on Monday morning and we felt it would be Thursday night before everyone got their power back. I know everyone worked well together and things just fell into place for us.”

Lambert said work crews from Gibson Electric, Tennessee Valley Electric and Mississippi Electric came to help the PEC workers get everyone with working power.

The PEC workers worked through the night on Friday until 9 p.m. on Saturday. They came back Sunday morning to continue the process of getting power restored to their customers.
