SELMER, Tenn. — A Thursday night fire left one Selmer automotive business severely damaged, according to the Selmer fire chief.

The origin of the fire at Hively Motors is unknown and a routine investigation is under way.

Selmer Fire Chief Anthony Carr said the fire call was made to E-911 at 8:13 p.m. Thursday and the Selmer Fire Department was on the scene at Hively Motors four minutes later. Chief Carr said the fire began in the garage area of the business that is located at 675 Mulberry Ave. in Selmer.

“We are investigating the fire now and I called in the state fire marshal to help us with the investigation,” Carr said. “We have found no sign yet of how the fire started.”

Carr said the business lost a wrecker, a van and a motorcycle that were inside the building.

Jason and Sequioa Hively are the co-owners of the business. Carr said he thought the business had been in Selmer for 15 years. The fire chief said J. Hively was out of town when the fire happened on Thursday.

Chief Carr said he expected it would be a few weeks before the results of the investigation would be known. The preliminary investigation was continuing on Friday.
