Teacher makes a difference

Hello, and thank you for your online news! I would like to acknowledge a wonderful teacher who made a difference in my life many years ago. She was an elementary teacher at the old school (since destroyed) near downtown. Her name was Virginia Haynes. She made me feel special at a time of great hardship in my life. I could write a book about it, but just want to let educators know how she inspired me to learn by her empathy to a small child.

One thing she did was sketch a picture of me and showed it to the class. She restored my being as I had a previous teacher who terrorized me in another area. She later was put away as she suffered some form of insanity, but Miss Haynes was beautiful and probably had a lot to do with my going on to college to become an interior designer, and my daughter a high school art teacher.

How one small act of love can change lives! I wish I had let her know as I still think of her. If she is still living, I hope she reads this. Thank you and God bless you, Miss Haynes.

Walkway is needed

Why can’t there be a walkway for the people who live in the Farmington Arms Apartments, Country Lane Apartments and Spanish Courts? Every time I drive down Proper Street people are always walking with cars having to dodge the people. It is usually the only way of transportation for the residents. One day, while I past, I saw the saddest thing. It was a lady in an electric wheelchair trying to pass by.

Enjoy the jacket

To the person who stole my son’s North Face jacket Friday night at the skating rink — it has his name and phone number written inside on the label. I hope you enjoy the jacket.

I agree with the sidewalk. I also think there should be another streetlight on the corner closest to those apartments. Many times, at night, it is difficult to see pedestrians who are not wearing bright clothing.
